SeoulQuest Foundations
The Mission
Cultivating Intellectual Agency in the Global Leaders of Tomorrow.
SeoulQuest is a chronological journey through Korea’s past and present, designed to cultivate intellectual agency in the next generation of global leaders. We treat students as adults-in-training, inviting them into complex conversations about Korea’s history—the miracles and the struggles alike—to investigate the grit that made modern Korea possible.
We provide our students with a ‘foundational summer’—one that redefines their academic trajectory and strengthens their character. By anchoring high-stakes intellectual exploration in a framework of veteran safety, we give students the space to truly excel.
Through ‘scaffolded independence’ and bespoke 1:1 projects, we reward critical thinking with the freedom to explore individual ambitions. Students emerge with the confidence and cultural fluency to navigate Seoul and its history on their own terms.
The Method
A Bespoke Journey Through Korea’s Past and Present.

Experience History Like Never Before
SeoulQuest is built on a chronological curriculum that moves students through Korea’s evolution in the order it occurred. Rather than just studying history in a classroom, scholars experience it through weekly thematic modules that blend university academics with immersive field studies and expert sessions.
Week 1: The Joseon Dynasty – Students explore the foundations of Korean society by visiting the Jongmyo Shrine and participating in a Hangeul calligraphy workshop to understand the origins of the Korean alphabet.
Week 2: The Colonial Era – The focus shifts to the resistance movement with a field study at the Seodaemun Prison History Museum and a traditional “historic ration box” culinary experience.
Week 3: The Korean War & Division – Students investigate the peninsula’s division through a trip to the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) and a private colloquium with a North Korean defector.
Week 4: The Economic Miracle – This unit examines Korea’s rapid post-war growth, transitioning from the struggles of the past into the industrial “Miracle on the Han River”.
Week 5: Democratization & Global Debut – Students study the 1988 Seoul Olympics’ legacy and visit the National Assembly to learn about Korea’s transition into a modern democratic republic.
Week 6: Modernity & Global Soft Power – The journey concludes with an immersion into the Hallyu Wave, featuring a tour of the SM Museum and a screening of the film Parasite to analyze modern K-pop aesthetics and global cultural exchange
Chart your path with an individualized capstone project
While our group activities follow a structured chronological curriculum, we empower students to shape their own experience in Seoul through bespoke “Individualized Capstone Projects,” or ICPs. Whether a student wants to master traditional Korean dance, practice Hanja calligraphy, film an original documentary, or author a university-level research paper alongside a PhD-level mentor, SeoulQuest provides each scholar with exactly the experience they desire in Korea.

Make Authentic Connections with Peer Mentors
At the heart of the SeoulQuest community is our Undergraduate Mentor Program. SeoulQuest provides dedicated undergraduate mentors who are carefully matched with students based on personality and Korean proficiency. These mentors serve as academic guides and cultural liaisons, offering language tutoring, guidance on cultural nuances, and authentic insights into student life in Korea. Students are assigned to small mentorship groups, ensuring personalized attention while fostering international friendships.

The Team
Born from Experience, Dedicated to Empathy.
SeoulQuest is led by a unique dual perspective. Our Program Director, Sarah Mack, first arrived in Korea as a fifteen-year-old exchange student who had never used metal chopsticks, navigated a subway system, or spoken a word of Korean. She learned to navigate through Korea with a flip phone and a pocket dictionary, and is now dedicated to making that same transformative journey more intentional for the next generation.
This history is our foundation and our bridge between two worlds. We recognize the spark of discovery and trepidation a student feels when first navigating Seoul, but we also respect the high-stakes peace of mind a parent requires.
Beyond Director Mack, the SeoulQuest team is comprised of educators and mentors who have spent decades navigating the nuances of the peninsula. We leverage this collective expertise to guide students into the heart of the country’s complex history. Ultimately, we provide the stability and structure that allows for true intellectual risk.
